Estaban leyendo sus poemas basados en sus experiencias personales durante la dictadura en la Argentina. Me prometí a mí misma que algún día haría una película sobre eso. Ese fue un punto de inflexión en mi vida: nunca volví a ser la misma. En 2010, cuando me convertí en madre, sentí un impulso muy fuerte por hablar sobre mi país de origen, el contexto en el que crecí y lo que le transmitiría a mi hijo. Hice este cortometraje enfocándome en cómo trasladar cinematográficamente el discurso poético y en cómo fotografiar la lucha de las madres de los desaparecidos. Durante el período 1976-1983, conocido como la “Guerra Sucia”, la Argentina atravesó distintas dictaduras en las que treinta mil personas fueron desaparecidas. El régimen dictatorial implicó persecución indiscriminada, detenciones, secuestros y torturas en centros clandestinos de detención. Las personas eran arrancadas abruptamente de sus hogares por fuerzas militares, sin ninguna explicación, y llevadas a esos centros. Las madres de esa joven generación reclamaron por la vida de sus hijos e hijas. Como consecuencia de la desaparición de sus familiares, estas madres iniciaron una organización política llamada “Madres de Plaza de Mayo”, también conocidas como “Las Madres”. A lo largo de treinta años de lucha, Las Madres lograron llevar ante la justicia a muchos de los líderes militares culpables de violaciones a los derechos humanos, asesinatos y homicidios. Habiendo cumplido parcialmente su objetivo inicial, continuaron enfocando su atención en otras causas vinculadas a los derechos humanos. They were reading their poems based on their personal experiences during the dictatorship in Argentina. I promised myself that one day I would make a film about it. This was an inflexion point in my life, I had never been the same since that day. In 2010, when I became a mother, I felt a strong drive to talk about my country of origin, the context in which I grew up, and what I would pass on to my child. I made this short film, focusing on how to convey the poetic discourse cinematically and how to photograph the fight of the mothers of the disappeared. This poem used in this film is written by one of the mothers, anonymous, from the book published by the organization Madres de Plaza de Mayo: “Cantos de Vida, Amor y Libertad,” edited by Rafael Cedeño, Poemario No. 3. During the period 1976-1983 known as the “Dirty War” Argentina underwent different dictatorships where thirty thousand people were missing. The dictatorial regime in Argentina involved indiscriminate persecution, detentions, kidnapping and torture in clandestine detention centres. People were dragged abruptly from their homes by military force without any explanation and taken to detention centres. The mothers of this young generation claimed their son’s and daughter’s life. As a consequence of their family disappearance, these mothers initiated a political organization, namely, “The Mothers of Plaza de Mayo” also known as “Las Madres”. During the thirty years of their campaign “Las Madres” have been successful in bringing to justice many of the military leaders guilty of human rights violations, assassination and murder. Having partially met their initial goal, the Madres have continued to focus their attention on other human rights work.
